About Us

Who are We?

We are a diving club and branch number 25 of the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC). Based in Stechford in Birmingham in the West Midlands, we were formed in 1955 and today consist of about fifty members of varying levels of scuba diving experience, from complete beginners to some who have been divers for over thirty years.

Hundreds have learned to dive safely with us, and despite Birmingham's far-inland location, we are an active diving and diver training club. We have a dedicated team of instructors, some of whom are also active with the BSAC Coaching and Instructor Training Scheme, which ensures that we are kept up-to-date with all the latest thinking in scuba diving techniques, skills and equipment. Within the club we are therefore able to offer high quality diver training courses from beginner level up to the Advanced Diver qualification.

Our members have a wide range of diving interests including nautical archaeology, marine life conservation and surveying, underwater photography and videography. We are quick to embrace new advances in the sport: there are rebreather and mixed gas divers amongst our members.

We maintain and regularly use our own rigid hulled inflatable boat (RIB).

Meetings

We meet on Monday evenings at 8.45pm for a pool session at Stechford Cascades Leisure Centre (located four miles from Birmingham city centre and about six miles from both Solihull and Sutton Coldfield), where club members can undertake diver training, try out scuba diving equipment, snorkel or just swim. Guests are welcome to visit: look for us in the pool spectator area.

Afterwards we have a social gathering at the nearby Sedgemere Sports and Social Club.

We have informal open water meetings for diving and diver training at Stoney Cove every three to four weeks throughout the year. In the summer months we meet at Dosthill quarry most Friday evenings (except when we are are away for a weekend diving).

The exact fee depends on individual circumstances e.g. there are discounts for those under eighteen or in full-time education, and for more than one member sharing a single address. Please contact us for more details.

Scuba diving is an adventurous sport, and there are some medical conditions which are incompatible with safe participation in the sport. Every member therefore has to sign annually a self-certification medical form, as defined by the UK Sports Diving Medical Committee. If you have any queries about the medical requirements, then please contact us.
